# About Kinfolk Canvas

Free tools for the family historian, the reunion organiser and anyone who has wondered what “second cousin once removed” means.

## What it is

Kinfolk Canvas has four tools: a [printable family tree chart](https://kinfolkcanvas.sbs/) maker, a [cousin relationship calculator](https://kinfolkcanvas.sbs/cousin-calculator/), a [generation and age gap calculator](https://kinfolkcanvas.sbs/generation-age-gap-calculator/) and a [family reunion planner](https://kinfolkcanvas.sbs/family-reunion-planner/). The look borrows from the embroidered samplers that children once stitched with alphabets, trees and family names.

## How it works

Everything runs in your browser. Charts are drawn on your device, the calculations happen on your device, and what you type is saved only in your browser’s local storage so it is still there next time. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account. You can save your family tree or reunion plan as a file and open it again whenever you like.

## Accuracy

Relationship names follow the usual genealogical conventions, and the pages that quote research link to the studies. If you spot a mistake, the tools are simple enough to check by hand, and each page explains its method.
